Heavy metals like Cu, Zn, and Fe play a significant role in plant physiology but heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Cr, and Hg are exceptionally toxic and dangerous environmental pollutants [8, 10]. A number of studies have shown that some common vegetables including Amaranthus species are proficient of accruing high heavy metals levels from contaminated irrigating water or growing soil [ 25, 26 ].

Iron (Fe) is indispensable for the growth and development of plants. It is well known that FER‐LIKE FE DEFICIENCY‐INDUCED TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR (FIT) is a key regulator of Fe uptake in Arabidopsis .Here, we identify the Oryza sativa FIT (also known as OsbHLH156) as the interacting partner of IRON‐RELATED BHLH TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR 2 (OsIRO2) that is critical for regulating Fe uptake.
